Advance Wars 2 FAQ: Q: Why are you running this game? A: Why *not*? But nah seriously, I played through this casually earlier this year (this is super rare, I play through a game casually like once every 2 years), and really enjoyed it. It's a tactical game, so routing it was fun, and it's not very popular so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Q: Do you plan on running other Advance Wars titles? A: Maybe? I had played Dual Strike before playing this game and liked that too. I played the original for like 2 seconds before thinking it was ugly so prob not that one lol. But it depends on how much fun I have with this, and whether I feel like playing others. I like branching out. Q: How do you win missions? A: You normally win by either taking out all your opponents units, or by capturing their HQ. In the Story Mode however, there are several missions with other win clauses, such as taking out enemy cannons counting as a win, or taking out a pipe, or in the case of Nature Walk, simply taking a unit to your own HQ. Q: How did you route this? A: I used both the current record and a very old TAS (from 2009. I should also mention it's terrible quality) as a base, and built my strats on top of them. After that, just trial and error with deductive reasoning, I improved pretty much every mission that isn't incredibly basic in either speed, consistency, adaptability or a combination of the three. Q: What's with the splits? A: Those are the mission numbers. Q: What the the hardest mission? A: Difficult question, depending on what you mean. The longest mission by a long, long way is Great Sea Battle (23). The least likely to win by a long, long way is Rain of Fire (22, about 15% per reload on my testing). The most technical fight, as in the one you have to pay attention the most to not lose time to exeuction, is A Mirror Darkly (12). Q: Does this game have RNG? What does it effect? A: Yes it does. It impacts, to a small extent, the damage dealt and received between units, and the enemy's decision making. The units damage doesn't matter in a lot of cases, and there is only one mission where you *need* a good damage roll (Toy Box, 15), but the enemy AI is a different story. While there are several missions where the enemy always acts the same, others where it doesn't matter, and others where you can adapt, there are also missions where the enemy can do multiple things and only one of them will allow you to win (in any decent time, anyway) Q: Can you do RNG Manipulation in this game? A: No. While the RNG is for the most part not running at all, it runs at two important times making RNG Manip impossible. Those are 1) Whenever you go to attack something, and 2) On the title screen (which you can not consistently clear at the same time). You can however do RNG advancement from a save file. Q: What is RNG Advancement? A: You can Save within missions in this game. When you save, the game also saves where the RNG is at, and reloads it exactly when you restart the savefile. So, for the missions where I need good RNG, I can save, and if I get bad RNG, reload my save file, and then slightly alter the RNG until I get good RNG. The first reload doesn't need any adjustment, because simply reloading a save file advances the RNG twice, but after that the simplest way is to flash the CO screen, which advances the RNG once. But I would like to at least beat the current record.
