Q: What are you playing the game on? A: I'm playing on a New3DS XL with a capture card built-in to record my game audio and video. Q: Why are you running this game? A: It's the 3DS PB I'm least content with. It also happens to be the only 3DS era Pokémon world record that I don't currently have. Q: What’s your PB? A: My PB is 4:51:16. VoD is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLgc27SRDFc Q: What’s WR? A: The WR is 4:50:17 by wartab. VoD is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKxFecjmlys Q: What’s your goal time? A: 4:49. Q: Why does the run start there? A: There was a vote taken a couple years ago where the 3DS community voted that the 4ish minute intro cutscene was not deemed important enough for the Any% speedrun and thus runners are allowed to use a save file where the character is at the first point after that. Q: Why do you pick the boy over the girl? A: Picking the boy allows you to skip being given the Makeup Case. Q: What are the differences between Sun and Moon? A: Sun is actually pretty significantly worse than Moon. The main differences consist of: - The first trial is completely different dependent on your version. The Alolan Raticate line is much easier to deal with for Popplio than the Yungoos line featured in Sun. - Sina and Dexio from Pokemon X/Y return in this game, and you fight one of them dependent on your version. In Moon, we face Sina's Delibird/Glaceon instead of Dexio's Slowpoke/Espeon. Espeon is significantly more dangerous and Slowpoke is significantly harder to kill. - The Grass Trial has a different first Pokémon that you face dependent on your version. In Sun, it happens to be a Parasect with Dry Skin, meaning that we cannot use any Water moves on it to kill it (a massive issue) - We get Lunala instead of Solgaleo. Both are decent for the Elite 4 but Lunala is slightly better. Q: What is the route? A: We use Popplio evolutionary line for nearly the entire run until we get Lunala and use that for most of the remaining fights. Q: Why do you choose Popplio? A: Water/Fairy is a very very good type combination. Additionally, we are given access to the move Scald very early into the game and Primarina's extremely high Sp. Atk stat and access to moves like Sparking Aria and Moonblast make it a very powerful choice. Q: What stats are you looking for on Popplio? A: Good Sp. Atk and not horrible Defense and Speed. Q: Why didn’t you weaken that Pikipek before catching it? A: The grass on the first route is hard coded to guarantee catch every Pokémon. Q: Why do you need to catch a Pikipek? A: There is a mandatory double battle about 3 hours in. Q: Why do you set the time before runs? A: Making the game night time when we arrive at the Altar of the Moone 4ish hours into the run allows us to skip a line of dialogue. Q: Why don't you set L=A at the start of the run? Not setting L=A allows the R button to be used, and when we are given the tutorial for the Photo app in the Rotom Phone it allows us to save around 8 seconds by not waiting for the bottom screen to show up.
