Pokemon Fire Red Manipless (Glitchless) FAQ Q: What are you playing on, it is emulator? A: No, I am playing on a DS with a capture board installed Q: Why do you choose Squirtle as your starter? A: Cause it beats the early game the best. Q: Why AREN'T you doing manip for starter stats? A: Because the "manip" in this game involves following the instructions of external tools, which to me personally crosses the line of having tools assisting your speedrun. So I choose to play the game in a way that actually feels legitimate to me, so all my runs of FR/LG are manipless. Q: What stats do you need on Squirtle? A: Either 11 Special Attack and 10 Speed, or 12 Special Attack and 9 Speed. The other 3 stats do matter as well, I won't won't specifically reset just because they are bad. Q: Do you catch any other Pokemon? A: Only for HMs. One for Fly (Pidgey/Spearow), and one for Cut (Rattata/Paras) Q: Why do you play as the girl? A: She's cute. No advantage either way, the text differences between the two are within a handful of frames. Q: Why do you name yourself and Squirtle 'I'? A: Because it's faster to name them one character for text purposes, and the letter 'I' gives a nice spin as if the game was self-narrating Q: Why do you name the rival KAZ? A: It's the shortest of the default names, and makes resetting for Squirtles quicker, since its about 2 seconds faster to name him KAZ. Over the course of a finished run, ends up being <1 second slower. Q: Why Fire Red and not Leaf Green? A: I only own Fire Red. Leaf Green can get better options for Cut slave (can get Sandshrew after Mt Moon which can then also learn Strength), but it's not worth buying another cart for. Q: What are the hardest parts of this run? A: Depends how risky you play, really. Forcing torrent can always be added risks for timesaves throughout the run. There's also the chance of missing Mega Kicks and later in the run, Blizzards. - I'd say the worst fights are Rival 2, Rival 3, and Koga Other fights that can be troublesome are Misty, Picknicker Martha (in Rock Tunnel), Rival 4, Erika, Rival 5, Rival 6, and all of the E4. Q: What is WR? A: https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnfrlgext?h=Manipless-glitchless&x=824le5ed-38dexy1n.14oxr3eq Q: What is with those split icons? What does A and B mean? A: This is a grading system for all of my splits. I'm sure you are familiar with grades, A+ being the best then going down from there. So the idea is, if the split has an A+ next to it, my time there was really good and would be very difficult to beat. If it's a C though for example, it was quite poor, and I should be able to save time there pretty easily. This way, everyone watching has more accurate information on where I can save time, and where I should be making up time. Also that all time loss is not equal, as losing time vs an A+ split isn't really that bad, whereas losing time vs a C split is really bad. It'll probably take a while for a lot of people watching to pick up the meaning so I will appreciate everyone who explains how this works (correctly) in chat to new people. Q: What is your goal time? A: Ideally a 2:04 I guess. Having fun with this, so I'll keep going for a bit.
