Q: Why are you playing this? A: Because I want to. Q: What are you running next? A: I don't know, I've never known, stop asking. Q: Are you done with Glitchless? A: No. Q: But I like watching Glitchless more? A: Too bad. Q: What is this category? A: Pokemon Emerald Any% has us beat the game as fast as possible, using any glitches we wish to do so. The current route only uses one glitch, corrupting an Abra to get a credit's warp. Q: What is World Record? A: There are at minimum two different places on my Livesplit layout you can find that information. Q: What is the glitch? A: The glitch has us use a Pomeg berry on Marshtomp, which increases it's happiness but lowers its HP stat. If we do this at 1 HP with a specific setup, we can lower Marshtomp to 0 HP, thereby having a party of only fainted Pokemon. We then use this glitched state to corrupt an Abra in our box to turn it into a glitched egg. When the egg hatches, it reads the Box names as machine instructions, so we name our Boxes in such a way that we tell the game to trigger the Hall of Fame cutscene once the egg hatches, hence beating the game. Q: What is the route? A: The route is nearly identical through Norman, except we do slightly different shopping and we grab the Exp. Share from Devon Corp. In Norman's gym, we equip the Exp. Share to Abra to give it specific EVs. After Norman's gym, we need to get exactly 4 Atk EVs (Poochyena) and 4 Speed EVs (Wurmple/Marill) on Abra (+ an HP up), and simultaneously we need to lower Marshtomp's HP to exactly 1 HP (we use Take Down recoil for this). Once EV training is finished, we grab a Pomeg berry to use on Marshtomp, name our PC Boxes, put Abra in the PC, and initiate the glitch. You can find a more in depth route guide here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16OMZggQXcotySvU_nzQaQdR5MnT8490PrQTFCVWucyQ/edit?tab=t.0 Q: How does the Abra get corrupted? A: With a party of fainted Pokemon, we enter a wild battle which sends out a glitched "???" Pokemon. By doing a certain sequence of inputs in our Pokemon menu, we then corrupt one bit at random in the Abra's data structure. There are 32 possible bits that can be corrupted this way, and we need one specific bit to corrupt, so each attempt at this only has a 1/32 chance of working. Q: You said there's a 1/32 chance of the glitch working. What happens the other 31/32 times? A: 1/32 --> Abra turns into Egg and we get the credits warp. 1/32 --> Abra turns into an Egg, but it won't get the credits warp because it'll never hatch. 5/32 --> Abra turns into a "Bad Egg" (the game literally calls it "Bad Egg"), which won't work. The only way to continue from this point is to reset to before I started the glitch and do a bunch of setup again, which takes way too long, so this is effectively a dead run. Bad Egg can only happen on 50% of Secret IDs, which you have no way to check in game. On the other 50%, the Abra remains as an Abra. 25/32 --> Abra remains as an Abra (some text might glitch out when inspecting it but it doesn't affect anything). Q: Ok but how EXACLTY does the glitch work? A: Magic. Q: How many tries can you attempt the glitch and still get record? A: Each attempt at the glitch takes about 44 seconds unless I get Bad Egg. In general I will need to get it in the first 2-3 tries to get record. Current record gets it on the second try. Q: Why do you have to play all the way through Norman? A: The earliest available Pomeg berry requires Surf to get, so we need to beat Norman to get Surf. There are currently no viable water walking glitches to bypass this. Q: Why do you get the Protein? A: It gives us some better ranges on a couple pokes (Flannery Camerupt, Spinda, Zangoose) and therefore decreases the odds of losing runs to these fights. It only costs 10-15 seconds on average to pick up and use the Protein, and since the most important thing is in Any% is getting as many runs as possible to the glitch, it's worth it. Q: Why do you catch an extra Pokemon after Roxanne? A: We need two Pokemon in our party for the glitch to work, but it doesn't matter what the second one is. We also need to sacrifice a Pokemon on the Maxie fight, but we need Abra to stay alive to EV train, so we sac the extra Poke. Q: Why don't you just use the Reverse Chained manip from Glitchless to get your extra Poke? A: We need an Abra with very specific stats for the credits warp to work, so we have an Any% specific Abra manip to catch it.
