Pokémon Gold/Silver Any% Glitchless F.A.Q. Q: What are you trying to accomplish? A: I am trying to defeat Pkmn Trainer Red as fast as possible. Q: What does "Any% Glitchless" mean? A: "Any% Glitchless" is the name of the category I am running. The goal is to complete the game as fast as possible without any glitches. Oversights (such as the Poké Doll) are allowed, however. Q: What is the Best Time (BT) in this category? A: 3:18:41 in real time, by Gunnermaniac, on console. Q: What is your current Personal Best (PB)? A: 3:22:39 in real time, on console. Q: What is your goal? A: 3:18:xx or better. Q: How are you streaming/recording your runs? A: I use the following programs: > Twitch streaming: OBS Studio > Game-only capture: vMix > Timer: LiveSplit I use the following hardware: > Capture card: GV-USB2 > Console: GameCube w/ Game Boy Player + Game Boy Interface > Controller: Wii-U Smash Controller Q: Why [insert version]? A: Gold has access to Sandshrew as a potential Cut slave. Silver has better and worse sprites. Q: What are the differences between Gold/Silver and Crystal? A: Gold/Silver has more required trainers and less spinners, utilizes Teleport as a strategy, and uses only one main. Q: Why do you set the time to 5:30 - 5:35 PM? A: This time allows me the greatest chance to find a Cut slave. Sentret is available in the beginning route during the day time, Bellsprout is available on the next two routes any time, Sandshrew is available in Union Cave during the day (Gold only), and Oddish is available in Ilex Forest during the night. Q: Why do you name everything "A"? A: Naming commonly seen names one character saves frames throughout the entirety of the run. A is just the fastest character to select. Q: Which starter Pokémon do you select? A: I select Totodile. Totodile's Rage is very game-breaking in the beginning, and he learns the biggest variety of TMs to sweep the game. Q: Why do you keep resetting the game? A: My stats probably sucked. Otherwise I was too far behind to realistically beat my PB. Q: What are the stats you want for Totodile? A: Totodile needs to have a minimum of 12 Attack. Preferably, Totodile has 12-13 Attack, 11 Special Defense and 10 Speed, but other combination are runnable. Q: Why did you reset if you didn't even see the stats yet? A: If Totodile is female, it will always have 11 Attack. Q: Okay, you got the stats, but you reset after the rival fight. Why? A: Stats probably sucked too much given specific circumstances. I usually explain it when it happens. Most likely case if 13 Attack at 6. Q: Why do you catch [insert Pokémon here]? A: Here is a basic rundown of the entire team: > Totodile/Croconaw/Feraligatr - Main Pokémon. > Sentret/Sandshrew/Oddish - Cut slave. > Kenya (Spearow) - Fly slave. > Abra - Teleport slave. > Poliwag/Poliwhirl - Whirlpool and Waterfall slave. Q: Why do you buy Abra? A: Compared to Crystal, both spinner hell and Kanto are done completely differently. Abra helps save time by skipping spinner hell and by reducing the travel time to the Power Plant. Q: What do the numbers next to the split names mean? A: The number represents how many HM slaves I have caught. You'll most likely see numbers on the Falkner split, Slowpoke Well split, Whitney split, and Chuck split. Note that this number does not include Kenya or Abra, just the combination of Sentret/Sandshrew/Oddish and Poliwag/Poliwhirl. Q: What is a "spinner"? A: A spinner is a trainer that randomly looks in each direction. These spinning trainers cost precious time on account of extra time battling. There are a total of 11 unique spinners that I must pass 15 to 16 tiles worth of vision. Q: What are the hardest fights in this run? A: Rival 2 is easily the hardest fight. Bayleef has Razor Leaf, which has a 1 in 4 chance to critical hit; a critical hit most likely ends the run. Whitney can also end runs with an unpredictable Clefairy and a tough Miltank. Red fight is the last real troublemaker; it requires 4 turns of setup against a Pikachu with Thunder.
