Q: How bad is Sunflora? A: Mostly bad, but has its highlights. Good special attack means some fights go well, but base 30 speed is very very VERY bad. Sunflora also doesn't have a reliable Grass-type move to deal damage with, as seen by the fact that we use Petal Dance a lot. Overall it was a fun run to route and the route is getting improved every run. Q: How do you get the Sun Stone? A: By winning the Bug-Catching Contest. Yeah. It's bad. Q: What are the hardest fights in the run? A: The hardest fights are Rival 3, Morty can be bad, Clair is very slow, Karen and Surge become dangerous because of Double Team, Sabrina is scary and there is a bad range on Blue. Q: How do you beat Red? A: I came up with a pretty nice strat to reliably beat Red. By catching a Tangela outside Mt. Silver, and using Shuckie to Encore Pikachu into QA, we can Knock Off Pikachu's Light Ball to cripple its damage output completely. Tangela also comes with AncientPower, which means we can immediately evolve it into Tangrowth to take even less damage. Tangrowth also learns Sunny Day to remove the Hail, and has Stun Spore to reduce Pikachu to dust. Sunflora also Attracts Pikachu, and all of this makes Red free. Q: What do you manip in this run? A: I made a new initial seed manip that was found for Billy runs (seed 45080C61). The Cyndaquil is female with 18HP, 30ATK, 21 DEF, 30 SPA, 3 SPDEF and 30 SPD. We got low Special Defense on purpose, in order to get Blaze from Falkner more easily. This seed also gets Pokérus on the first fight in Sprout Tower. Everyone seems to think that I will manip the Bug-Catching Contest, but this isn't feasible. The hardest part catching the Bug, and manipping that is hard. The Sunkern manip aims to do several things. We want a female Sunkern for Attract, Modest nature, Hidden Power Rock and solid defenses. Also, you need to find a seed that has the Sunkern actually encounterable, as PokéFinder doesn't natively check for this. It's also optimal to find a seed on hours 16-19, to be able to use Dusk Balls to catch some mons later. With that in mind, I found this seed: 131002A5 at 196 advancements: Sunkern♀ Lv12 PID: B1CD4414 Modest 0: Chlorophyll 30HP, 9 ATK, 20 DEF, 31 SPA, 22 SPDEF, 30 SPE with Hidden Power Rock 66. It doesn't have perfect defenses or Hidden Power Base Power, but it has Hour 16 and the second best defenses that I could find. It also has very low delay at 579, meaning I don't have to wait very long to hit my seed. The downside is it has 196 advancements which means it's not a particularly fast manip, but I don't really care about the timeloss. Q: What is your final moveset? A: Hidden Power Rock, Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, Attract. This moveset makes the Red and Blue fights very cool in my opinion.
