It is far from uncommon to see new, new-ish, or just not amazing runners become flustered due to things out of their control, RNG. Although RNG is certainly annoying, unless you are at a really good point with your skill, it is truly not the wall separating you from a really good time. One of the most common questions people ask is "Where is my timesave?" Let's take Red Glitchless as an example. A skilled runner can consistently get a Lorelei split of sub 8:00. Take Exarion for example, he can consistently get sub 7:55's. But somewhat unskilled, or even intermediate runners can lose 20 to 25 seconds on that with the same RNG, and not even realize. But how? How can there be such a significant time loss that isn't even noticed? Mainly because non top runners know to not compare themselves to top runners. Which is good, to an extent. Constantly noticing lost time to a 1:45 is not ideal for a runner who is aiming for a 1:55. But, that said, I've seen people lose a total 1:00 to 2:00 of potential time on movement heavy splits, such as Fly, Koga, Erika, and Lorelei independently of doing or not doing certain strategies such as Silph redbar. The point I am trying to get at, is that you don't need to be a top runner to try to emulate them in certain ways. Be sure to know your limits, but if your gold Fly is a 11:00, try to work on your movement. I always say the best practice is "Movement, menus, manips." They are all similarly important. You will never be perfect, but you should make sure that if you compare your splits to top runners and see great disparity, you can improve that. Don't expect to go from a 8:30 Lorelei to a sub 8 in a couple days. But if you continually try to improve splits where your execution matters most, you are going to pick up time in runs. And you won't need RNG to do it. So, moral of the story, although RNG can be tilting, the only common denominator in your runs and attempts is you. So don't use, "Wow, top level runners can do X and I can only do Y" as an excuse or just to complain. Use it as your motivation to be able to do X. Play like a top runner, make your execution better, be conscientious about the minute details of your run. And it will pay off. RNG won't matter as much to a runner with an okay time if they're playing better than okay. Or you could just get Wsopboy91 whip you into shape.
