Blame bjw for this, saw him post a similar pastebin and decided to do the same. 2016 was pretty good in terms of speedrunning for me. Found a couple new games, worked solidly on some platformer projects, and made big ground on Pokemon projects. Most importantly, I had more fun with the games I took on this year compared to others, specifically the Pokemon games. Doing almost all gen 4/5 runs instead of 1-3 was a lot more fun. The routing was waaay more interesting, and that in turn made the running more enjoyable as well (and way less grindy) 2017 looks good as well, have a really clear vision of games I want to do and projects I want to wipe out. It'll also almost certainly be the last year I'm even close to this active, as family time takes over at some point mid-late next year. It's a fairly long list, but I've got good motivation to get it all done. Anyway, here are my PB's from 2016, listed in chronological order. Sonic Battle Any% in 3:30:21 This was a fun run. Spent a fair amount of time routing out each character to get some good setups. These could almost certainly be improved, but I felt like it was a really good starting base run for anyone new who might want to try their hand at this game. This run also doubled as individual character runs, as I've only beaten Sonic and Emerl outside of this run. Pokemon Platinum Any% Glitchless in 3:44:12 I spent a fair amount of time on Plat this year, took care of glitchless first. This was a really nice run, and I'm really happy I did this as it improved the standard of this game a huge amount. Given is still stands 13 minutes past 2nd place, it's fair to say this game has a fair bit less competition than other titles in the series Sonic Labyrinth Any% in 16:46 Came back to this game after doing Best Ending last year to take the any% record too. The runs are so similar I initially didn't want to do this, but the record not having an available video was too annoying that I ended up doing so. Didn't have to put too much work into this though, given the aforementioned similarity to a run I'd done before Wario Land 2 Any% in 7:16 New walljump got found here late last year, so had to return to take back this record from Vlack. This run was pretty good without being amazing, I actually think my old 7:22 pb was better, as the new walljump saves about 10 seconds, it's just really difficult to get. Super Smash Bros Brawl Boss Battles Solo in 3:14 Boss Battles Co-op in 2:50 I can't even remember why I initially did the solo run here, but it was a free record on src so I couldn't resist. Afterwards my roommate showed some interest in doing the co-op run, simply because I said that record would be free as well, and we spent a fair amount of time on that (mainly because she is not so good with the games, had never played smash at all before doing this, or video games at all before this year). Was a lot of fun mainly just doing something enjoyable with her, rather than the actual speedrun. Mario Power Tennis Singles in 1:10:37 Doubles in 1:08:44 I like the Mario Tennis games, had fun with GBC last year so thought I might as well take on the GBA titles too. These games are a fair amount easier. Doubles is more interesting imo, get some more unique strats and such, but had fun with these. Pokemon Platinum Elite Four Round 2 in 5:04:12 Had some good fun routing this out in Plat too. This run is probably the worst of my Plat runs this year, just due to it's nature in actually running it, it's more fun to route than grind. It's not as serious a category -and- it's longer, so I spent a lot less time actually focusing on getting a great run. But still, did a lot better than anyone else had previously. Tails Adventure Any% in 16:08 Finally beat back Bored here after far too many months. This game is still on my radar to improve, but it's a tough game with only internal worth these days, as bored is gone and no one else plays this gem. Sonic 2 & Knuckles Any% in 15:11 Got this record back after it was beaten this year too. Still trying to improve to something better currently, won't stop until I get this under 15. Pokemon Platinum Any% in 2:49:54 Had been working on this for months, probably the pick of the runs from this year. Spent a lot of time routing and innovating, and created a really really nice run. The time is pretty good too without being amazing, it's a difficult run as far as Pokemon games go. Due to the amount of time and interesting ideas that went into this though, would definitely say it's been my favourite of the year. Pokemon Black 2/White 2 Challenge Mode in 3:21:14 After solving how to RNG Manipulate a Drilbur, I had to return to this category to save off some minutes with the god of unova. And did so. This could probably go down some more minutes, especially with some rerouting to get early slaves now, will probably be one of my projects in 2017 WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! Any% in 29:43 My old record here (which I got during Golden's first 12 hour challenge) got beaten by a second last year. I took a lot of time umming and ahhing about whether I'd come back to this and try to take it back. Eventually I did both, got a fairly nice time here that'd take some effort to take out. Pokemon Black 2/White 2 Any% in 3:15:22 And then saw that Drilbur was the superior option in any% too, had to go do that run as well. This run was quite frustrating, it was incredible except for one moment where I hit an option, which cost about a minute. A critical mistake and makes me hate the run, even though the time is solid. I'd like to get a run without an error like this, if I get the time will probably do so sometime next year. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl Any% Glitchless in 3:44:57 Originally did runs of this early in the year in Feb, and got a time of 3:50. Crafted then took this time out, and so months later I then returned to rerouting the game with a fresh headspace. In an attempt to try and manipulate Palkia, I ended up routing it out entirely (#LuckyEgg), and then got this time too. Enjoyed the innovation here as well. This run had a fantastic second half, and given the incredibly random nature of this game, even compared to other Pokemon titles, along with it's general not-as-fast-ness, unlikely I will return to this, even if it's beaten. Sonic CD Any% in 11:29.05 Spent some months on this game this year. After getting a nice run last year, Moving Peel Out was found, so I had to improve my run with that new trick. Throughout the run is probably saves about ~1:15 and this run is almost exactly 1:30 better, so it's definitely of better quality. Will take some beating, this is another one I'm really happy with this year. Sonic Megamix Sonic in 22:40 Shadow in 21:40 Mighty in 28:30 Tails in 25:30 Knuckles in 28:08 Spent about a week on this game too. It's a fun romhack we did races of back in the day, just felt like actually planning it out and looking for solid strats through the game. Found some really neat stuff, and did a mediocre run with all the characters. Was fun. Sonic the Fighters Sonic in 3:29.19 Last year I was challenge on a number of characters in this game by Guest. This year Sonic was the only one, and this time the challenger was SuccinctAndPunchy. He gave out 2 solid blows before conceding, and the quality of runs was pushed higher as a result. This is a really fun game, but it's way more fun with competition, so I'll always let my runs be here until beaten and then come back like straight away. Super Monkey Ball Expert in 0:42 Advanced in 1:12 Haha, with the glitch found here I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a free perfect record. Expert is easy, but Advanced did take some hours. I don't even own this game, these runs were done while I was staying with Barhunga. We had a lot of fun going for this, recorded with inbuilt webcam pointed at TV screen for maximum value. WarioWare: Twisted Any% in 28:36 After the fun I had with the first Warioware, thought I might as well give Twisted a go too. This game was also fun to run. I've had a look at the other games in the series, and they do not appeal to me as speedgames at all. Partially because of their nature, but also because these two I've done are the two I had as a kid, so they are the ones that strike with me. Pokemon Red/Blue No Save Corruption in 14:29 Just practice for doing runs in marathons I did this year really. Sonic Battle Emerl's Story in 11:40 Jameike beat the time I got here in my any% run earlier, so I picked up some new strats and put in the work to get a pretty solid run here. Shortest of the stories so thought I might as well make it at least decently polished. Pokemon Crystal Any% in 13:16 With the new route found here, I thought I may as well do some runs and get a decent time. Little did I know that in literally one attempt, I would have the record. That time and since gotten beaten (I have no intention of getting it back, terrible RNG grind fest), but to get a time that decent within one attempt makes me so happy. The time investment to run quality ratio off the charts here, loved it. Sonic Drift 2 Blue GP in 10:41 Pretty damn solid run here. Came back to this after having issues with my keyboard when running it last year, don't think I'll be going back to this GP anytime soon though. Pokemon Stadium 2 Gym Leader Castle Round 1 in 2:13:57 Gym Leader Castle Round 2 in 2:54:49 Complete the game in 20:33:05 Got NTSC carts for the stadium games, thought it would be fun to run again, and it has been. Took the Round 1 record from 5upa, then really heavily improved the other 2 categories. Complete game was really nice and fun, really enjoyed that. Both Gym Leader Castle runs can be improved, and will probably continue to be projects leading into 2017. Simply because this game is easy to stream, so I can play it for a couple hours in the morning without any practice or much energy, and still have a full day to work on other stuff off stream. Pokemon Stadium 1 Gym Leader Castle Round 1 in 1:36:53 I generally don't like Stadium 1 as much as 2 (it's like 9.7 vs 9.9 though), but this run is by far the best time of all my Stadium runs so far imo. Would be incredibly tough to beat, fully satisfied and not coming back. The other two categories are both definitely going to feature next year, just gotta finish routing them...
