This guide mainly documents my experience learning how to play full item randomizers for Pokemon Crystal. It is aimed at people who already have some knowledge regarding Pokemon Crystal speedruns. ======= Getting started ======= Before you get started, you will need to download the tracker. The tracker will help you keep track of what items you have and will tell you which areas are available for you to reach. The tracker can be downloaded at https://emotracker.net. Once you have installed the tracker, click the cloud button with an arrow to open the Package Manager and search for "Crystal". You will want to install the "Pokemon Crystal Item Randomizer" package by DillonIsMyName and Vicendithas. ======= Using the tracker ======= To use the tracker, first change the category to "Extreme". Click on the gear icon above the Items section and then click on the yellow Ho-Oh to change the setting. It is also recommend to enable "Fast Tool Tips" using a different gear icon in the top-right of the window and navigating to the Assistance tab. For streamers, you can press F2 to pop out a copy of the items section of the tracker to display on your stream. There are three types of locations shown in the tracker: orange squares, green squares, and yellow squares: - Green squares show locations where you can obtain all available items in that location. - Orange squares show locations where you can obtain some, but not all items in that location. If you go there, you may need to backtrack later. - Yellow squares show locations where you can obtain items by going into a dark area without Flash. It is always possible to obtain Flash+Zephyrbadge before going into a dark area, but it is often faster to go there sooner. You will want to keep track of what locations you have checked. This can be done in one of three ways: - Hold left click on a square to bring up a list of available items in that location, then click on the items in that list. - Double click on a square to open the list of items in your Pinned Locations section. You can then click on items in that list to mark them. If you want to remove the location from the pinned items list, click on the pin icon in the top-right corner. - Right click on a square to mark all available items there. This is dangerous because you might think you picked up all items there, but there might have been an additional item that you didn't realize you had access to. This method is only recommended for experienced runners. When you pick up a key item, badge, or critical HM/TM, mark it in the tracker by clicking on the appropriate item in the Items section. You can hover over an item to see what it is. If you make a mistake, you can press Ctrl+Z to undo or you can right click on an item in the list to unmark it.
