this is now obsolete new route here: http://pastebin.com/FVCXj5XJ Pokémon Gold Any% Very Basic Guide “TID route” (Emulator) Before starting clear any old saves you might have to prevent loading them Using BGB with GBC bios, hard reset BGB and hold Start + B to frame perfectly clear the first intro, switch B to A and release the start button to frame perfectly clear second intro to receive 55531 TID. You should be “in-game” right now Keep the time the default time (10am). To clear text faster hold B while mashing A until you can adjust your text speed in game Once you get to your name, name yourself a single character name [Optional] Check Trainer ID in menu options, confirm 55531 TID Adjust settings to Fast/Off/Set [and Menu Account Option Off] Leave room, talk to mom, answer her questions with default day (Sunday)/No DST/Yes Phone, as these are the fastest options Go to Professor Elm’s laboratory and talk to him choose starter Pick Totodile, the middle Poké Ball, for multiple reason, main reason being that this route will not work with anyone else, but of course Totodile is fastest for Gen 2 so that reason too Nickname Totodile a one character name Check stats for Totodile here, the BEST possible combination for a LVL 5 Toto is as follows: 13ATK/12DEF/10SPA/11SDEF/10SPD 13 Attack is 15 DV attack, the highest possible Don’t expect that though and it’s fine if you don’t get that one I generally reset anything that is not at least 12/12/10/10/10 but as a general rule the minimum that could be run is 12/11/9/10/9, using anything lower might be rough [Optional] when checking stats, if still uncomfortable with TID, and did not confirm it earlier, check it when checking stats should see 55531 under IDNo. to the left of the Stats Once you have a Totodile that works for you take off his berry, this part is crucial Leave lab, automatically talk to Elm’s Aide Go as far left as you can, taking the least amount of steps/turn frames in grass as possible If, at any time you encounter a level 2/3 Pidgey/Sentret, it is fine to faint it to get the experience, but run from every other encounter. If you have 9 speed you might not be able to run from level 4 Ratattas first try Level 2s are faster since they have a chance to faint in 2 hits Once you get your 16+ experience run away from every other encounter you see Once you reach the first city, Cherrygrove, enter the mart and buy 4 potions First item, 3 up Leave and head towards Mr. Pokémon continue to run from encounters if needed. Take the left route on the right hand side of the road Don’t get hidden potion or berry outside of his house After cut-scene leave house and walk in as little grass as possible Jump over ledge then grab the berry outside Cherrygrove on your way back Head back towards the Lab and fight your rival Rival has Chikorita who knows growl and tackle, expect to be growled at least once If you are unsure of your speed stat, know it is 10 if you are speed-tied What you do is Leer it once then spam scratch. You can’t really lose this unless you get crit multiple times by Chikorita After winning you will level up to level 6, check your stats if needed The BEST possible stats here are 14/14/12/12/12 Note these stats are not possible with low stats at level 5 If you have 12 speed here then your speed DV is 15 Return to Prof. Elm and avoid walking in grass. If I have a bad time I usually YOLO the two patches of grass you can avoid walking in to save a second or so. When asked to name rival name him a single character as per usual Talk to Elm, get free Poké Balls leave lab After you leave lab head left again staying as low to the wall as possible Man will ask you if you know how to catch Pokémon, and if he can show you how to catch them. Say no and proceed to Cherrygrove just like before If you need to defeat an encounter here for 16 experience or more then do so now If you see Sentret at any time feel free to catch it for cut later on. Scratch it once and then chuck Poké Balls. If you do not see one then no big deal, we find Bellsprout later on Proceed to Route 30 and fight Youngster Mikey, the second trainer on this route. You can skip Joey by walking in the grass to his right. Spam scratch on his Pidgey and Ratatta hit level 7 and learn rage, which will be needed to beat Falkner and his gym easily Continue towards Violet City, meeting your first spinner, Bug Catcher Don Pause buffer Don if needed and heal Totodile to full using a potion and give him one berry making sure to keep at least one more BERRY as it WILL be needed later on During pause buffer you can call Mom by going to Pokégear and going right two and pressing A twice During Mom call tell her to NOT save your money. If you accidentally say yes you will have to call her back Pass Don and if he sees you just fight him. He has 2 Caterpies that will be easily defeated and they will give you experience for the first gym which makes it easier. If hit just spam rage or scratch either one works Continue to Violet city, grab the bitter berry next to the sleeping man and then jump the ledge by walking down, this avoids the trainer If you see a Bellsprout here catch it, the exception to this is if you have Sentret you do not need to catch it. Be careful though since it has type advantage, you might want to scratch it once or just YOLO ball it If you do NOT see Bellsprout then it is fine since it has better odds of seeing one later. Sprout is only in the grass before and after the bitter berry. If you took damage from Bellsprout or Don you might want to heal at the Center or burn another potion before the first trainer in the gym as that is where we are going next Fight Bird Keeper Abe. He has a Spearow that does 6-8 damage on a non crit per attack depending on your defense stat. Spam rage Heal using a potion and give Toto the bitter berry you acquired earlier Fight Bird Keeper Rod. Spam rage It is recommended to heal to full before Falkner but if you have good defense and more than 18 HP you should beat Falkner and live unless he crits you Fight Falkner. Rage everything Leave the gym, get a call from Elm’s aide and the head towards the Center. Talk to aide, get the egg, heal using a potion if needed (don’t heal at center itself) and then go towards the PC. Here we are setting up arbitrary code that will be executed later on with the help of the coin case. Name the boxes as follows and then leave: BOX 1: p 'v , 'v é é 'v 2 BOX 2: p é d 2 'l é D 9 BOX 3: . 9 'l 'l é é 4 5 BOX 4: é ? 2 'v 9 é ♂ 2 BOX 5: 'v 8 é é 4 'v 't 'l BOX 6: 'v é é é 4 p 'd 'd For more info, go here: http://pastebin.com/tLs6s00D Head towards union cave. If you still need Bellsprout then now is the time to find it. If you have Sentret you just need the Pokédex entry for it, so just keep searching the grass for one. Catch it if you need a cut slave. Before (or after if you get lucky) finding one fight Youngster Albert. He has a Ratatta and a Zubat, both of which will be beaten by simply scratching them multiple times Once you have Bellsprout go to the fisherman that is looking up and talk to him to engage him. He has a Goldeen which will have to be taken out. If you have 15 DV attack all you have to do is spam scratch but if you have anything lower than just leer it once and then spam scratch. You might need to heal here because this Poke can hurt. It also has supersonic which can confuse you if you don’t have a bitter berry. Dodge rotator, say no to slowpoketail guy and then enter Union Cave. Dodge spinners here, if you hit one not a big deal just water gun their Pokes. Fight Russell water gun all of his Pokes and continue on. Run from encounters. Once you get to Bill water gun Vulpix once and scratch it again if you need to. Exit Union Cave and go left. Dodge Anthony, but if you hit him just spam water gun and you will be fine Go to Kurt’s house and speak with him, then go to the Mart and buy items here we will buy the following: 3 Super Potions 1 Escape Rope 3 Repels 2 Antidotes 2 Paralyze heals Leave mart and go to Slowpoke Well heal if you have low hp (I heal when I have 24 or less but it really just depends) Fight first Rocket Grunt - scratch all Ratattas Fight second Rocket Grunt healing if necessary. Water Gun Zubat unless you have bad special/high attack in which case scratch Zubat. Then water gun Ekans 3-4x heal poison afterwards if needed Fight third Grunt scratching Rattatas and water gunning Zubats Again heal if needed before final Rocket Grunt. He has a Koffing which can poison you so keep that in mind. Just water gun it until you defeat it and then mash through the cut-scene Go to Azalea gym and fight Twins Amy and May. If you still have bitter berry talk to right one else talk to left one. Water gun Spinarak twice and scratch Ledyba twice, then go left. Leer Paras once then scratch it as needed. If you get poisoned or paralyzed here it’s fine Next up is the final spinner in the run: Benny. He has 3 pokes so kind of annoying to hit. Pause buffer him and heal to full and remove any status conditions you might have. If you hit him then just water gun everything except for his Beedrill, which you will have to rage After passing or defeating Benny head to the leader Bugsy, just use rage for all of his Pokes and then, assuming you have not hit any other spinners, let your Totodile evolve to Croconaw After evolving leave the gym and head towards Illex forest, stopping one tile before the second rival encounter. Heal to full/repel/teach Mud-Slap over water gun (important) and fury-cutter over rage (also important) [Optional]Save before the fight as this is the worst fight in the run Start the second rival fight. Use mud-slap on Gastly. It has a chance to use hypnosis or lick which have a chance to cause a status condition on you, if you get put to sleep you can’t really do much about it other than waiting, if you get paralyzed use a paralyze heal before Bayleef. Next up is Bayleef, fury cutter 3x to beat it and hope it doesn’t crit you. Finally scratch the Zubat until it faints and you win Do Illex Forest like normal, repel when needed and when you need to teach cut teach it to Sentret/Bellsprout, not Croconaw Go to Goldenrod, avoid trainers, don’t get sweet scent, go to the northern exit of Goldenrod and get the Spearow, Kenya from the guard. Afterwards leave and go to the underground segment and fight the first trainer. Fury cutter the two slowpokes and grab the coin case. Give the berry to Croconaw! Important step here! Then escape rope out and head towards the center. This next movement is very important and if you mess it up you will have to leave and re-enter. Enter the Center, go up once, right once and down once so you are on the right part of the “floormat.”[No you cannot just go right, need to go up first] Go into your Pokémon, switch Croconaw with Kenya, and, if needed, Bellsprout/Sentret with the egg. Make sure your party order is Kenya /Bellsprout(or Sentret)/Egg/Croc Also make sure Croconaw’s moveset is Scratch/Leer/Fury Cutter/Mud-Slap in that order Finally, walk three steps left so you are right next to the staircase and open your menu, find Bellsprouts cry either in the Pokédex or in your party, then go to your items pocket. If you are on the Key Items pocket you will have to change to a different pocket first. Use coin case, walk left then right, then back left and warp to Mt. Silver. Walk up 3 steps, and right 1 and talk to Red. Timing ends upon clearing the last textbox. Credits will most likely not go unless you hold B, but the sound should play.
