Q: What are you playing the game on? A: I'm playing on a New3DS XL with a capture card built-in to record my game audio and video. Q: Why are you running this game? A: I discovered a timesave that also makes the run much more consistent. Q: What is so different about this route from the last one? A: We skip all things related to the Lucky Egg, an item which boosts experience gain by 1.5x. This includes, but not limited to: 5 Sweet Hearts from an NPC, an Oran Berry, catching Hawlucha in a Luxury Ball, 2 different massages for friendship, the Soothe Bell, an HP-Up, an Iron, 7 different levelups, and so much more. More details here: https://pastebin.com/7taHqX3X https://pastebin.com/jpLrxRkp Q: Why do you mega evolve so much, that is slow ? A: It actually isn't too bad. Since we are no longer getting the Lucky Egg, we end up holding the Lucarionite by default, making it significantly easier to justify mega evolution. It only takes 8 seconds to mega evolve, which is slightly longer than one turn. Therefore, if there is a fight that either saves two or more turns or one turn and makes the fight safer we will do it. This results in a total of 15 mega evolutions in this route (currently). Q: What’s your PB? A: My PB without Lucky Egg is 3:39:57. VoD is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWV6EKyflSA Q: What’s WR? A: My PB with Lucky Egg and the overall WR is 3:39:29. VoD is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxSjiYl3VYk Q: What’s your goal time? A: PB/WR. Q: Why do you pick the girl over the boy? A: Picking the girl changes the nature of your rival's Pokemon - the most important of which is the Meowstic in Coumarine City's rival fight having a -Speed nature. Q: What are the differences between X and Y? A: The only difference is that on the same route as Hawlucha (Route 10) there are Electrikes instead of Houndours. They are just as easy to run away from, however, Electrike can be much more punishing if you fail to run away. Q: What is the route? A: Chespin -> Farfetch'd -> Hawlucha -> Lucario Q: Why do you choose Chespin? A: The Chespin line does the 3 fights we do with it the best by a little bit. Additionally, we'd like to keep Chesnaught out of either of our rivals' hands. Q: Why are you running around in the early game grass? A: We need to catch a 20% Bunnelby here to trade for Quacklin', an in-game trade Farfetch'd. It handles the fights before Hawlucha decently well, saves an evolution over keeping Chespin, doesn't rely on Rollout RNG, and has a much easier time running away from wild encounters. Q: Why didn’t you weaken the Bunnelby before catching? A: The grass on the first route is hard coded to guarantee catch every Pokémon. Q: Why do you need to catch a Hawlucha? A: Even though we'd like to just use Farfetch'd until we get Lucario, Hawlucha just handles the fights we use it for so perfectly that we don't really have a choice. Additionally, Farfetch'd can't really win the second gym leader, Grant, by itself no matter what. Q: How likely are you to catch Hawlucha? A: We are 19% to encounter Hawlucha each encounter. Once we encounter it, we have about 2-3 turns to weaken/capture it before it kills us. With Dusk Balls (the current strategy), it is 56% to get in from full HP and around 86% to get in whilst damaged. This is a large improvement from the previous route with Luxury Balls (22% at full HP, around 34% whilst damaged). As a result, much more runs will get through the Hawlucha catch than before which is a very good thing. Q: What stats are you looking for on Hawlucha? A: Anything that isn't low IV -Speed. Q: Why Lucario? A: Mixed attacker with great stats, Swords Dance, and powerful STAB moves. It and its mega evolution are given to you after the 3rd gym and it handles the game better than Hawlucha overall, making it the obvious choice. Additionally, it has set stats, which is a big deal for speedrunning. Q: What are Lucario’s stats? A: Lucario is always the same, 6/25/16/25/19/31 with Hasty nature. Q: Why do you set the date and time before runs? A: On the previous route, we had to set the date to February 14 or March 14 in order to get 5 Sweet Hearts instead of 1 from an NPC, however, we don't need these anymore so our date doesn't matter. However, we still need to set the time before the run in order to avoid wind on Route 13 which can make it significantly harder to traverse. Additionally, there can be hail in Anistar City making a rival fight there both slower and scarier if you don't set the time. I currently use 23:06. Q: Why don’t you use O-Powers? A: O-Powers are currently banned in Any% because they require your wireless to be on, however, it wouldn't even be faster anyway because using one makes the game lag significantly until you next reset the game.
