A few months ago, I said I was unmotivated to run Pokemon games from Gen 4+ because I had plenty left to with all the Gen 1-3 games I already own. Here's where I stand in terms of running these games. RED: Still love it and want a better time, but lack of DSum and RNG manipulation makes it a frustrating RNG grind YELLOW: Never liked running it, and happy with the time and improvements that Gunner and I have made GOLD: Terrible speedgame, hopefully never touching again CRYSTAL: Lack of manip isn't as problematic as Gen 1, and time can still be lowered, but not ready for the 3:14 grind SAPPHIRE: Imperfect manip and other RNG makes this a terrible category to grind, and the best time is sufficient for now EMERALD: Imperfect manip means I need to rethink my goals for this game. Also, heavy RNG + heavy execution is exhausting and time-consuming FIRE RED (ANY%): Bad category, don't plan on running it FIRE RED (ROUND 2): Great category, but imperfect manip and the possibility that Mewtwo > Zapdos makes this reroute a huge project that I'm not motivated to work on COLOSSEUM: Good speedgame, but I recently finished a grind for sub-4, and I'd like my time to be challenged before I return (second-best time is 15 minutes slower) XD: Terrible speedgame, hopefully never touching again GLITCHED CATEGORIES: Is there a single one that isn't a meme? So, while I definitely want to return to several of these games, I'd like to take a break and focus on a new speedgame: SoulSilver. I'll start with glitchless and possibly move on to any%. Both seem like great categories, as they involve heavy RNG manipulation that decreases the effect of dumb luck and increases the effect of good execution. The best time (Werster's 3:37) is decent but improvable, which makes me want to beat it. And I've never played Gen 4 casually, so I'll have a lot of fun experiencing something new. Before I start SoulSilver runs, I need to acquire a cart, a DS and a capture board. I'm still working out the logistics of this, and I may accept donations so that I can more easily afford this (I don't work many hours at my current job). In the meantime, I'll be streaming very serious categories such as Ash%, plus anything else I feel like doing.
