Mentality in PSR: I've gotten better with this, but am by no means perfect. And that is okay. But I need to talk about this. Mentality in speedrunning is important as anything else. Going into a run or grind with the expectation of it finishing is just wrong. If you aren't expecting variance in your runs, the do not speedrun pokemon. I am not going to name names but several people I consistently watch will say "I've played [high amount of time] of [game] this [week or month] and have nothing to show for it." But if you expect something to show for it, then you have bad expectations. People need to understand that not every run is the run. Not every run will be the run. And understanding that your runs are going to die in frustrating, sometimes downright stupid ways is critical. You should always be aiming for a PB or whatever, but you cannot always be expecting it. When I was playing Yellow, I expected an easy PB because my time sucks. And I quickly because frustrated with how it wasn't happening. Because I was wrong to expect it. Someone who has the right mentality is Hwangbro, for instance. He has the patience to be able to grind early games for hours, something I admire him for. He has quite a good mentality for it: That variance happens, and runs will die in unreasonable ways. What needs to happen, is for you to play well, and give yourself as many opportunities as you can to get into the late game on good pace. But doing this requires patience, and an understanding that hard work will not always pay off. In my opinion, your execution needs to be quite good to complain about RNG killing [time]. RNG didn't kill my 1:49s when I had a 1:52:06. My wrong mentality and poor execution did.
